Finally, I made it to Ying Thai situated at Lygon St in Melbourne CBD. After my Street Photography tour around city for three hours (to be blogged another day), Miss Meow and her bf brought me to this much talked about Thai Restaurant. I've been hearing about this place for ages, since I moved to Melbourne early in the year.
My cousin in Malaysia recommended it and even Miss Meow! Who knew it would take me 7 months to make it to this eatery. I was taken back a bit by the interior deco. The Thai Restaurants in Malaysia are usually high end and hence, the interior decorations are usually pretty upper class feel.
Ying Thai might not exude the high class, expensive ambiance but it gave me a nostalgic feel, transporting me back to my Bangkok Trip in July 2009. It felt as if I was in a shop in Thailand! And I think that goes a lot to say about the shop.
The Tom Yam soup definitely was a delight! It is clear soup with no coconut milk and definitely tastes like Tom Yam but not the kind you make from a packet or a bottle. Portion is big and for seafood, it's AUD10.90 whilst for chicken, it'll be AUD9.90.
Despite the portion coupled with my hunger pangs from traipsing all over Melbourne CBD from 8am till 12pm, I wolfed down the pad thai noodles with spoonfuls of soup. Miss Meow and I chose Mild spiciness. I wouldn't say the soup was super spicy but I definitely feel the burn as I finished the meal. Perhaps my tongue would have been on fire if we had picked Medium Spicy. Yikes!

After that, we trotted a few shops down to Il Dolce Freddo for their famous home made ice cream! As this was my first visit to yet another much talked about eatery, I was spoilt for choices! In the end, I had cookies and cream with a scoop of Roche upon recommendation from Miss Meow. The Roche really tasted like the Ferraro Roche chocolate!
Both ice creams were good. Too bad I couldn't fully enjoy as I was still recovering cough. And yes, I shouldn't be eating ice cream BUT you just can't pass up a chance like this!!

After my lunch and desert, Miss Meow and her bf dropped me off near the Crown's Casino. Instead of looking for Mr. C, I headed off to DFO. Miss Meow was saying that one can get really good bargains and even Miss Cutesie has mentioned umpteen times before but I just never found time to go and have a look. Today, I seized the chance to do so.
And I shopped a fair bit much to my joy and chagrin. I spend a total of AUD60 but it was really worth it! Oh retail therapy, how you make me happy! LOL. Anyways, I found my pair of silver shoes for my wedding luncheon and at a bargain to boot! It's a Nine West heels that was originally priced at AUD150+ but I bought it for AUD27.30! Such a steal, right?!
It was the last pair in my size and a bit smudgey but who can tell when I wear it with a long dress? Even in the picture, it looks gorgeous. :)
I love the dresses at Forever New but they are currently out of my price range. I bought a couple of tops from Cotton On for AUD5 and AUD3.50. Thinking of going back to look for some clothes for my siblings. Bought AUD3.50 and AUD2.50 tops from Jay Jay too! Definitely was surprised to get an AUD3 nice Aloe smelling moisturiser! Besides that, I also bought a scarf for AUD5 and also nail polish for AUD1.
To be fair, these are last season's clothings and DFO is known for it's warehouse prices. If you don't mind buying clothes that are not in season, this is a good place to go. You'll be surprised at the deals you can get. But like all good deals, you really have to go hunting for them.

After my shopping and rounding up Mr. C, we hurriedly headed to Etihad Stadium for the Melbourne Victory vs Sydney FC soccer match. This is a highlight for Mr. C as his ex-Blackburn Rover player, Brett Emerton was playing in the match for Sydney FC versus Harry Kewell who used to play for Liverpool is now back, playing for Melbourne Victory. Brett Emerton stood out from his team mates and played rather well, I must say.
The match ended with no score on both sides. I am not what you would call an expert in soccer but even I can see that the skills displayed here are rather inferior to those shown during World Cup and the EPL. But watching soccer and footie definitely has it's differences; the game, the fans, the cheers.
The Melbourne Victory fans were giving a hard time to Sydney FC fans and team with their loud, energetic cheers. They broke into songs, chants and what not. I love the united front though and team spirit! It's truly engaging to watch a live match. Despite soccer scoring less goals than footie, every time a potential goal was missed, the crowds reaction exhibited through cheers and boos were highly entertaining. Even I joined in the YEAs, AWWs and BOOs.
I was a bit let down by Harry that day. Perhaps he is still new to playing on homeground. Perhaps he was just not having a good day. Perhaps he felt pressured to be back and play a good game. Whatever it was, he missed many goals and even his body language showed his frustrations that was also etched on his face for all to see.
Oh well, no worries mate. Better game next time! :)
