Khalil Fong aka 方大同 - 紅豆

Most of the mandarin songs that I know are usually introduced by my PB. Khalil Fong is one of them. He is a Hawaiian-born, Chinese-raised and Hong Kong based singer and songwriter.

He's only a year older than me and yet, so much more accomplished. He learned to play the guitar and piano on his own in his late teens and started composing then.

This song was originally sung by Faye Wong but supposedly Khalil's version is nicer.

Pranks

Whenever someone visits my blog, leaves a comment after a post or at the chatbox, I make it a point to drop by their blog not JUST to click on their ads but to actually have a look through at their layouts, content etc.

It seems that there are LOTS of high school and college students blogging these days. Wonder where are the working adult bloggers. Anyways, I was just browsing through this guy's blog and the prank that his Econ lecturer and friends played on him was funny.

Well, it was funny to me. You read it and then tell me whether you did smile, even if it was a teensy one.

Here goes...

This happened on the October last year. I was still under my blanket instead of attending Economic class. My phone rang and someone known as Sarjan Akmal calling from Headquater of PDRM (Polis Diraja Malaysia).

Me : Hello siapa ni?
Sr : Ni sarjan akmal panggil dari PDRM. Nombor saya 432388
Me : apahal ni?
Sr : anda ada 3 saman belum bayar tau?
Me: har? Betul ke?
Sr : Ya. Dan mesti bayar hari ni tau. Kalau tidak, kami akan datang ke rumah tangkap
Me : har? (feeling scare)
Sr : 3 saman ni jumlah 600. kena jelas hari ni juga.
Me : Mana saya kena saman ni? Bila?
Sr : Semua kat KLIA highway. Pada 30 February, 31 april, 6 jun.(stupid me)
Me : oh. ok la. Bayar kat mana ini? Nilai police station bolehkan?
Sr : Tapi mesti mau jelas hari ni. Mau tauhu berapa speed kame tak?
Me : ok berapa?
Sr : 180KM/H
Me : Mana mungkin. Kereta saya tak mungkin bawas ni cepat.
Sr : Yakah. Kamu bukan pandu Mercedes ke?
Me : mana ada la bang?
Sr : yakah?
Me : yala. Saya ni orang miskin mana ada wang beli mercedes.
Sr : oh. Mungkin say buat salah.
Me : Mungkin: (relieving)
Sr : Apa top speed kamu ni?
Me : 160km/h.
Sr : ah, salah juga. Mana boleh bawa cepat sangat. Bahaya tau.
Me : Sorry la boss.
Sr : Jangan bawa cepat tau nanti kena saman pulak.
Me : Ok ok. tau tau.
Sr : Ada satu kesalahan lagi. Kenapa tak datang econ class. (econ lecturer voice)
Me : zzzz. WTF LAAAAA!!!!
Sr : eddywhat happened to you never come class
Me : Sir, why la, why la you pranked me.
Sr : This was your friends idea not mine I just follow only.

Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody

Two weeks back when I went Karaoke with Jayne in Subang, she chose this particular song that really tickled me at first.

You should see and hear the first part of the song.

I was thinking, "OMG!! what on earth is this song???!!" Sounds odd and retarded and yet it was sung really well in acapella style. Then, the chorus started with, "Mama..." and I was like, "hey... I know this song!! I've heard it before!!".

You should try singing this when you go for your next Karaoke Session. Definitely a toughie.

Is this the real life?
Is this just fantasy?
Caught in a landslide
No escape from reality
Open your eyes
Look up to the skies and see
I'm just a poor boy (Poor boy)
I need no sympathy
Because I'm easy come, easy go
Little high, little low
Any way the wind blows
Doesn't really matter to me, to me

Mama just killed a man
Put a gun against his head
Pulled my trigger, now he's dead
Mama, life has just begun
But now I've gone and thrown it all away
Mama, ooh
Didn't mean to make you cry
If I'm not back again this time tomorrow
Carry on, carry on as if nothing really matters

Too late, my time has come
Sends shivers down my spine
Body's aching all the time
Goodbye, everybody
I've got to go
Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth
Mama, oooooooh (Anyway the wind blows)
I don't want to die
Sometimes wish I'd never been born at all

[Guitar Solo]

I see a little silhouetto of a man
Scaramouch, Scaramouch, will you do the Fandango
Thunderbolt and lightning, very, very frightening me
(Galileo) Galileo (Galileo) Galileo, Galileo Figaro
Magnifico-o-o-o-o
I'm just a poor boy nobody loves me
He's just a poor boy from a poor family
Spare him his life from this monstrosity

Easy come, easy go, will you let me go?
Bismillah! No, we will not let you go
Let him go
Bismillah! We will not let you go
Let him go
Bismillah! We will not let you go
Let me go (Will not let you go)
Let me go (Will not let you go) (Never, never, never, never)
Let me go, o, o, o, o
No, no, no, no, no, no, no
(Oh mama mia, mama mia) Mama Mia, let me go
Beelzebub has the devil put aside for me, for me, for me!

So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye
So you think you can love me and leave me to die
Oh, baby, can't do this to me, baby
Just gotta get out, just gotta get right outta here

[Guitar Solo]
(Oooh yeah, Oooh yeah)

Nothing really matters
Anyone can see
Nothing really matters
Nothing really matters to me

Any way the wind blows...

1001 things to do

- Due for a hair cut. My hair is long, dry and all over the place. Or so it feels. Sometimes, when I have my insane moments, I have the urge to just shave it all off but heads will roll. My head that is. Mr. Bf likes my long hair.

- Apparently I have to pack all my stuff into boxes that I just unpacked a few months ago.

- Settle all outstanding debts and cancel credit cards. My Accounting degree did me no good. With my non-existent budgeting skills, I am as broke as a poor mouse. Seriously. Don't be fooled by my years of working experience or the line I am or was in. I am so poor that you wouldn't believe me even if I told you the balance in my bank account.

- Write a will... who should be my beneficiary? Sometimes, I think I am stupid for the sacrifices I "chose" to make. Cos I see it as sacrifice. What do they see it as?

- Say my fare-thee-wells.. then again, maybe not. Going out costs money. Going out means people asking 1001 questions. Which means I have to re-repeat my answers cos people tend to ask the same questions. Going out means less time at home. And less time at home means less things being settled.

- Get another pair of jeans. This isn't exactly important but with winter approaching, I would probably need pants to keep me warm. Or perhaps I could just stay in bed all day long.

- Throw or give unwanted junk away including things that I've been hoarding. My arts and craft stuff. Haven't made a card in ages. My colour papers, my wrapping papers (my family treats me as their gift wrapper and always asking me at the very last minute to assist in wrapping). Clothes. Shoes. Books. Dvds. Magazines. *Gosh*

- Get important documents photocopied.

- Send my 21st birthday present, Guess watch for polishing and the fallen out gems to be replaced.

- Pet and play with Jen and Rover more. Maybe not Rover cos he is one stinky, big dog who likes to sniff me and bump me (not hump) and has had a go with several pairs of my slippers with glee. I'll have to sneak over to see him at least once before I go though. Sometimes, I just want to kiss Jen and let her lick my face but I seriously have no idea what goes in her mouth. So, one's gotta play safe and keep one's face away.

- Do my tax filing unlike some unscrupulous people WHO don't pay. I hear that apparently Malays don't pay tax. I hope that is not true because if it were true, it'll just compound the racial issue that is prevalent in the country despite the Government's attempt to fool the world with our 1Malaysia-we're-SO-united-and-such-a-multi-racial-multi-cultural-country.

There are lots more but it's mentally exhaustive just thinking about it. So, I shall stop here.

For now.

Mage Cafe @ Damansara Jaya

Several Saturday ago, my family and I went to Mage Cafe for dinner. My plurk friends had been somewhat raving about the Tom Yam fried rice and the other food served there.

One is spoilt for choices!!

There is fried rice to Pizza to Pasta to Asam Laksa to Shepherd's Pie.

I heard that Ryan's pizza is nice though I have yet to try it. The pizza is named after the owner's son whom you'll see at the shop off and on.

Originally, this shop started out as a board games shop but as the previous owner couldn't make ends meet within several months of being in business, the current owner took over the shop and called it Mage Cafe, serving food and at the same time, people can play the board games available.

Tom Yam Fried Rice (approx RM9)
Big portion and has nice tom yam flavouring. Would have been better if it was served hot than lukewarm ish. (definitely enough rice for guys).

Shepherd's Pie (approx RM4-5)
Interesting presentation and value for your money as the pie's feeling is stuffed with chunky meat with some vege served at the side.

Oriental Chicken (I think it's over RM11 if i am not mistaken)
My brother and sister loves it for it's taste and portion!

Spaghetti Carbonara (less than RM10)
Doesn't taste like the usual version. Nothing too fancy.
Nothing super awesome but neither was it horrible.

Asam Laksa

Basically, the shop is at Damansara Jaya area facing Atria shopping complex. It is situated at the row BEHIND Maybank. Just a few shoplots away from Bon Bon's that is famous for it's durian pancakes, or is it crepe.

Don't be misled by the humble interior surroundings of the small shop that looks empty ish as it has been in business for the past 3 years according to the lady owner. So, head over there to give the food a try, if not, it also can be a place to hang out with your friends and play some board games.

IF you don't order food, you'll be charge a small fee for playing the board games if I am not mistaken.

Nat King Cole - Smile

I stumbled upon Glee's version of Smile at Kathlynn's blog and it's stucked in my head. I know that I've heard this song before and that I know the song but for the life of me, I can't recall how I know the song!

I think it serves as a good reminder to me that I should smile in all situations. To think as positively as possible.

I like the part where it says...

"Although a tear may be ever so near
That's the time you must keep on trying"

Smile though your heart is aching
Smile even though it's breaking
When there are clouds in the sky, you'll get by
If you smile through your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You'll see the sun come shining through for you

Light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness
Although a tear may be ever so near
That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of crying?
You'll find that life is still worthwhile

If you just smile

That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of crying?
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile
