Happy 13th Anniversary!!

{backdated}

13 is infamously unlucky
but not for us

13 years since we first met
meaning 13 years together
13 years of ups and downs
13 years and still,
we're together

Thank you for having such a big heart,

a heart full of love,
a heart full of affection
Constant affirmation
and for being with me despite it all.

Here's to many, many more
lovey dovey moments
annoying one another moments
working on our relationship moments
and most importantly,
growing old together moments!

Love and life

Are you ready for a long, thought filling post? If you're not, then, it's best to click the little 'x' at the top right corner. If not, buckle up... I wanted to update my blog and as usual, my thoughts aren't exactly coherently organised. So, do bear with me.

Each and everyone of us love and crave to be loved. However, due to human nature, we tend to complicate everything, even love.

If one is in a happy and non-complicated relationship, it eventually bores them with the lack of thrills and excitement.

On the other hand, being in a volatile relationship can be disastrous and scarring for ones mental mind eventually leading to the inevitable separation of both parties.

Some people are fortunate to meet their soul mates in their partner. Most often, we don't. I think ideally, it is great to be with a partner who understands, empathises and inspires, if not, at least, bring out the better side in you.

Mr. C and I, unfortunately, don't seem to be either of those. Despite that  coupled with our differences and incompatibilities, our relationship somehow works. And that is reality. Not Prince Charming, not Mr. Right. Those two gentlemen and happy endings that we see in Hollywood movies just aren't the realities of our world.

BUT if you do so happen to have at least one of those three 'dreams', then good on you! Treasure what you have and don't wait to lose it to only realise the full depths of your loss.

In every boy girl relationship, even with similarities, there are bound to be differences. The magnitude of the differences and how one handles it determines the fate of the relationship. I reckon, when one is young ie teens or uni years, one may lack the maturity and life experience to handle situations well.

When we learn to accept and overcome arguments, situations and whatever obstacles life throws at us (sometimes, we are the guilty party putting ourselves in that position), it builds our character, who we are.

If one has a pretty smooth sailing life with few worries, stress or tension, it doesn't mean that person lacks character. One just may not be as well equipped as someone who has been through it all.

These days, true and sincere love is hard to find. People are selfish and tend to think of 'me, myself and I'. It's not what I can do for others but what others can do for me. If we say we love someone, do we mean it? Or is it just said in the heat of passion?

Age old question: can we differentiate between love and lust?

Being in Australia, I noticed that sex is talked about much and in mainstream media. In movies and series, news and documentaries, the radio, it's all about sex, sex, sex. Even if you're not interested, it's pretty much in your face. The way of dressing, how people carry themselves, it oozes with sensuality.

One night stands are a norm. Divorces and separation are probably more common than healthy marriages. In fact, don't be surprised but people no longer deem it necessary to officiate and legalise their relationship in holy matrimony.

To them, it's just a piece of paper.

To them, why bother marrying if it limits a person. Why bother marrying if people eventually fall out of love?

I think, God really had it right. Having premarital sex is definitely not ideally. This is just my opinion. Me, thinking out loud. You may think me old school (and perhaps I am, for thinking so) but the idea of love making is just that, to create intimacy between couples. With that intimacy, it brings couples closer.

However, when intimacy is trust upon a couple who aren't ready, then, things tend to spiral out of control. And most cases, people have sex not because of their love for one another but just because the heat of the moment. One kiss leads to another and from first base, it's next to second.

It is not the main criteria of a successful and happy relationship, that's for sure. And that is why God meant for it to be between a husband and a wife. We live in a time where the message is to 'just do it', to go with ones feelings and to hell with the consequences.

But with every decisions, choices and path we take, we inevitably have to live the consequences.

When we are a child, our world is less complicated. Everything is black and white. Right and wrong is as clear as day and night. However, as we grow and step into adulthood, we stepped into a world full of grey areas. We justify the wrongs we do till they are right.

Nothing is as simple as 1, 2, 3 anymore. We no longer have to contend with eat, sleep and homework only. People fall in and out of love and change partners like changing clothes. Cheating on ones partner is hardly news.

Just yesterday, news broke about Kirsten Steward's infidelity and Robert Pattinson moving out. Anyways, I think it's between the two of them and we do not know all the facts. Besides, to err is human.

Nevertheless, I think, it will BE news if Hollywood couples can survive their first and only healthy, happy marriage that was meant to be 'until death do us apart'.

That being said, my life view used to be black and white. Cheating is wrong, no excuses. Now, I still say that cheating is wrong but I have come to realise that it often happens for a reason, if not many.

An unhappy and unfulfilled relationship is usually the cause. But like I've said in pasts posts, people engage in promiscuity just 'cos they can and because it gives them excitement. With modern times and the many opportunities available, instead of working things out, we take the easy way out, by cheating or breaking up.

To get good returns, we must invest. To have a good career, we must invest in good education. And just like everything else in life, to have good relationship, we need to work hard. We need to invest time, effort, understanding and lots of patience.

And it never gets easier. It's constant hard work. Anything good usually requires hard, honest work. It is true that sometimes, we do fall in love with someone who isn't necessarily right for us. And at times, we end up with someone who isn't our one true love (if you believe in all that jazz) but it doesn't mean the relationship can't work out.

It only means that both parties need to decide if the other is worth the effort. I can't say it any plainer than the next image below.

Happy 12 years together!!

On Friday night, my sister and I enjoyed a movie marathon. We started off with an old musical 'Seven brides for seven brothers'. It was really funny hearing Mr. C as he breaks off singing "blessed your beautiful hide" every once in awhile for the whole night.

Moving on from a happy musical, we watched 'Sabrina' starring Greg Kinnear and Harrison Ford. This movie is a classic. It isn't 'Sabrina the teenage witch' ya. Sad to say, they don't make movies like this anymore; simple and classy. Instead, movies these days are more about nudity and violence. More skin, kissing and touching scenes. The cruder, the better. More gore and sadism, the best.

It's no wonder people are jaded, cynical and hedonistic. It's no wonder relationships and marriage fall apart. It's no wonder people are superficial. Movies do influence us subtly that we don't even realise it. Oh well, topic for another post.

We ended the night with an old English classic, Sense and Sensibility. Loved the movie. It shows so much of the old English system where women were at such a disadvantage; you don't get to marry for love and if you are of a certain standing in society, it is a disgrace to work for a living despite not having the financial security. It is not the state of women then that I enjoy the movie but rather that it makes one appreciate the opportunities and freedom we have today.

Anyways, after the movie, it was past 12am on Saturday early morning, our 12th years anniversary. Gosh.. we have SO many anniversaries to celebrate.. hmmm, which one should we really be celebrating? After all, we have our 'get together' anniversary in June, our Registration of Marriage in November and our Wedding Reception in December.

Lols. Does it even matter? I'll celebrate ALL three! :)

However, Mr. C isn't exactly a romantic person. He doesn't exude the aura of knight in shining armour and doesn't do sweep-me-off-my-feet gestures in the past 12 years and I didn't see the point where he will start. Maybe Hollywood has ruined all romantic expectations, setting the bar higher than realistic. LOL.

So, when I went to our bedroom to sleep, I was pleasantly surprised by the below; roses and a card with meaningful words written in it. It's nothing grand but the gesture was sweet and unexpected. Husband points for him!!

I definitely didn't see this coming. I mean, yeah sure, some guys are 10 times more romantic than this and probably will have more tricks up their sleeve but hey, beggars can't be choosers. Most importantly, he made an effort. And that is all, I can ask for. ;)

My 'gift' to him, my heart, all litted up

All I have to say to you, Mr. C is thank you for accepting and loving me and all my imperfections and mainly, for having such a forgiving heart.

Something borrowed and cheating

Watched this on my Sammie 2 on the flight home from Malaysia. Some scenes just made me tear much to Mr. C's chagrin. He really can't bear to see me in tears. Not that he is embarrassed by me but that he can't stand to see me sad. Then again, I doubt he understand my tears.

The story is basically about Rachel (the brunette) who has always loved Dex from law school, whom she inadvertently introduced to her best friend, Darcy (blondie Kate Hudson) and now, after six years of being together, they are engaged to be married.

What is sad is that it was obvious that Dex and Rachel had feelings for each other from day one but they both just never did expressed them. She, thinking how can a guy like him fall for a girl like her and him? God and him only knows what was going on in his mind.

And because he thought that she had no feelings for him, he moved on... to Darcy. After all, who can blame him? Darcy is vivacious and full of life. If you don't try, you'll never know what you might be missing out on... right?

So, Dex and Darcy dates and progresses to the next step after six years - marriage. However, after Rachel's 30th 'surprised' birthday thrown by Darcy - despite knowing that Rachel doesn't like this kind of surprises - Rachel off handedly mentions her law school crush on Dex over drinks with just the two of them, leading to them getting involved (you know what I mean, I don't have to spell it out) and complicating things.

It's a messy thing to be in. Cheating on your best friend's fiancé? Even if that is the person you had dibs. Even if that person is the love of your life. Cheating on your fiancé's best friend? Even if she was the one you first loved but never had the courage to say anything.

I won't tell you how that works out in the end but I am sure many of you have been in similar boats as this or know people who are or was in such situation. It confounds the mind what situations we put ourselves in, at times. Misery does love company and so, we sink into such depths.

But at the end of it all, does reality works out like in the movies? You tell me.

Back Up Plan

Pic taken from HERE.

On Tuesday, Mr. C, his colleagues and I went to watch "Back Up Plan" starring Jeniffer Lopez. In all honesty, despite me being a romance movie maniac, I would have much preferred to watch Ironman2 or Robin Hood or some action packed movie for a change.

Ever since getting here, I feel as if I am missing out on all the yummy movies. I haven't even watched Ipman2! Back home, I would probably be out catching all the new movies. Bummer.

The movie started out a little bit slow showing Jeniffer Lopez- "Zoe" being inseminated and hoping to get pregnant after being tired of waiting for Mr. Right to come along. Leaving the doctor's and headed to work, she hailed a cab and got into it. At the same time, this other guy got into the cab and the rest they say is history.

I think she looks really gorgeous in this dress. If I could even just pull this off and wear it for my registration, I would be a happy woman. =) She has really slimmed down a fair bit for this movie. I remember having more curves in the past. And this is her after giving birth to her kiddos, she doesn't look an inch of it!
Pic taken from HERE.

Basically, her having her own baby was her back up plan and then this guy comes along and messes that plan up. Tell me when does a guy NEVER messes things up?! The movie shows how they got together to the giving birth bit and of course, a happy ever after ending. Or so it insinuates at the ending.

I think it is really endearing of the guy to stick by her despite it NOT being his baby and what more to say two bundles of supposed joy. I rate it a 6.5/10 though as it was a much predictable movie with no surprises nor twists.

Instead, I recommend you guys to rent "While you were sleeping" starring Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman. I laughed and teared watching that show. It also leaves you going "awwwww". And because of movies like this and "The Proposal", "Two weeks notice" and "Miss Congeniality", Sandra Bullock holds a special spot in my heart.

Lines like this will make you go awwww.. (you've got to watch the show to appreciate it though)

Peter once asked me when I fell in love with Jack. And I told him, "It was while you were sleeping."

Book Review : Dear John

I read this book "Dear John" before I came to Brissie. It is written by Nicholas Sparks whereby many of his novels were adapted into movies. Famous movies in fact such as "A walk to remember" starring Mandy Moore and "The Notebook" that starred Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams.

It took me awhile to finish Dear John. It wasn't cause it was uninteresting and not a page turner but more so that the whole tone of the book was just sad even up to the end.

And if you really knew me, you would know by now that I loooove happy ending books and movies. I dislike sad endings mainly cause I feel that's how it is in real life. It's what I would call- reality. Not many people get to attain the fairytale happily ever after romance we often see in the movies.

Hence, I am hesitating if I should watch this movie. After all, I know how it's going to end. Then again, they have Channing Tatum as the main actor. And if you've read my blog, you would know what I think of him. Definitely droolworthy material. He also acted in Step Up 1 and 2, just in case you were wondering as to why he looks familar.

The movie however has a different ending to the book. It is a happy ending version. So, who knows, I might just catch it after all. And that will be after watching Ipman2, Ironman2, Letters to Juliet, Robin Hood and OMG... I wonder if I'll even have the time to catch them all or even any.

Stay tune for movie and book reviews.

Letters to Juliet

Ooooh... watching this trailer makes me WANT TO WATCH THE MOVIE NOW!!!
Poster taken from HERE. You can read about the plot at the same time.

It looks promising. Starring Amanda Seyfried (the main actress in MamaMia)

I tried looking on the GSC website to see when it'll be screening in Malaysia and am surprised that it's NOT currently showing in the cinemas and neither is it due to be released in June nor July. Strange. It seems to good to be missed.

It has been showing in Australia since 13 May 2010. Hope to catch it soon! Time to drag Mr. Bf to a romance genre movie. *hehe* Then I'll write a review on it.

The Ugly Truth review

SOMETHING ABOUT ME: I love taking pictures especially macro shots!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After waiting for ages and ages and going from blog to blog in my bid to win myself free tickets to the movie, I just got back from watching the Ugly Truth!!! WHEEEE.....

I first saw the giveaway tickets at Nigel Sia's blog and then Davidclicks. Different bloggers were giving out X amount of tickets and X amount of people who leave their names in the comment section would win free tix to the movie!

Thus my journey for free tickets continued. I made my way to Kellster's and then to Yatz's and somehow I was always slow in leaving my name! And then, Nigel gave me heads up on Serpentinegal giveaway and finally joshuaongys.

I immediately headed over to Serpentinegal only to find out that I was late. I kind of lost hope but told myself to just check out Joshuaongy's blog just in case and I hurriedly left my name. Basically, I owe it to Nigel!! And I owe him a drink for it...

Anyways, I reached Cineileisure at The Curve about 9pm and got my tickets from Kellster. Think she doesn't recognise me as the tickets weren't under GOINGKOOKIES. (Not to say I am famous or well known to begin with as this was my first event) =p And I think I saw Yatz.

Sorry for not saying hi!

Felt a little bit awkward, truth be told... and somewhat shy. All the camera flashes going off. Felt like some celebrity event. However, couldn't hang around to overcome my shyness as I had to rush to Ikea to get something.

It was 9.30pm by the time we were done with our purchases and we promptly headed for the cinema. By then, everyone was seated.

The seats were really comfortable and soft. Definitely more comfy than Tropicana City Mall's cinema. But for convenience sake, I would still head out to Tropicana Mall's cinema if it shows the show that I want to watch.

Basically, the movie was funny. People in the whole cinema kept laughing. I won't bore you with details of the movie as you can google for the synopsis or rather bloggers will or some even have posted the storyline.

For me, yes, it was funny. It's worth watching BUT the whole movie centered around sexual connotations and jokes. Personally, the ending saved the movie for me(not the in bed part). As much as I laughed at the sexual context jokes/pun, it's rather saddening to know that many people in the cinema who are probably younger than me... laughed at those jokes and are sexually aware.

Don't get me wrong. This is just my perspective and my humble opinion. I am not being judgmental nor righteously sitting on my high horse.. just in case I am misunderstood. Coming from a Christian family (although I am still working out my faith) from young, I was brought up with values such as abstinence before marriage etc. and my mum always drummed into me not to be crude and so on and so forth.

Yeah, it appears that it is the current culture or rather generation to cuss like sailors, smoke like a chimney and drink like there's no tomorrow. Sex?? It's not even really a taboo subject anymore as opposed to our parents times and their forefathers. In this so-called-modern times, there are lots of sexually active youth out there what more to say homosexuals.

My guy friends will always tell me that men have urges. Ans I would say, "as if girls don't." But I think, having the urges and YET controlling and waiting for that special someone makes it even more meaningful and well.. special.

If you keep sleeping with each and every of your bf/gf just because you are horny or turned on or it feels right there and then, then the act itself loses meaning and uniqueness. It's easy to lose yourself in the act as you indulge in your carnal desires and receive pleasure from it.

Physical pleasure yes. But with it comes the emotional aspect. That's a topic altogether for another day.

But like I said, people's mindset and culture are evolving. Just because one does not have sex, it does not make one unattractive nor a loser. If only people don't lose their virginity just because having it makes them a loser in society's eyes.

You're not... it's society who is the loser for not appreciating the inner you. Yeah, in the movie, guys mostly think about your boobs and your tush and your southern region. Perhaps 80% of guys are like that. So, does that make it right? Does that mean we, girls have to succumb to it and say it's the inevitable?

Not that all guys are like that either.Hehe. This post is getting really long winded.

Anyways, I would rate this show
3.9/5 for it's entertainment factor and happy ending! The plot is a typical happy ending and I love happy endings but it's the jokes that keeps it going.

And I think that guys like to take the easy way out and say, "dunno".
